President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has explained the rationale for the creation of the Ministry of Monitoring and Evaluation, saying without it, government programmes may not be delivered on time.
According to the president, the Ministry will “see to it that the target set by government in our manifesto as well as those set up in the budget are met and not just met but met on time”.
“The entire government machinery at all times is going to have somebody who is calling up and asking questions: ‘Why are there delays in this? Why are there delays in that?’” Mr Akufo-Addo said while announcing his second batch of ministerial nominees at the Flagstaff House in Accra on Wednesday January 11.
He further explained that the Ministry of Monitoring and Evaluation will be “that weapon for insisting that the work of government is efficient, effective, and timeous”.
Mr Akufo-Addo, announcing Dr Anthony Akoto Osei as the Minister-designate for the sector, described him as somebody with extensive experience in governance and a renowned economist with a very strong understanding of budgetary processes and targets. “I believe he is the ideal man to fill this new role I’m talking about,” he added.
