The Minority caucus in parliament has described the decision by the government to resort to the Heritage Fund to sponsor its flagship campaign promise of Free Senior High School (SHS) “lazy”.
The Minority, led by the immediate past Deputy Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, has described the move by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a lazy approach to score political points.
At a press conference on Thursday, February 16, Mr Forson indicated that “the plan to use the Heritage Fund is not just an incompetent way of redeeming a campaign promise but a lazy man’s approach which completely undermines the national consensus and painstaking efforts made” to save part of Ghana’s oil revenue for future generations.
According to him, they are strongly in support of the “wide public outcry” for government to desist from this plot.
He explained that NDC MPs were of the strongest disapproval and will protest against any attempt to amend the Petroleum Act to enable them use the Heritage Fund.
