The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly is providing practical training for jobless high school leavers and polytechnic graduates in its jurisdiction to sharpen their skills to obtain employment.
K K Essuman, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Monday July 10, stated that the youth form an essential part of the nation’s workforce, hence it is important to provide them with the requisite skills and technical know-how to be able to take up opportunities in corporate Ghana.
He said: “Several people have finished senior high school and are sitting home idle, some are unable to further their education due to the lack of money; others have also finished polytechnics and universities but are unable to get jobs to do.
“And so we as an assembly have invited the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana and the Institute of Accountancy Training under the Ministry of Finance to offer practical training for the youth in the municipality. This training will offer them the needed skills to take up job opportunities and also to create their own jobs. We have also invited the authorities of the Students Loan Trust Fund to also educate the students on how to access loans in order to support their education.
“This is not partisan, we are done with partisan politics and so it is now time to govern and governing covers everybody within the country, irrespective of your political party. And so everybody in the municipality is invited to this programme.”
He added: “The One District One Factory policy will also help the youth and so we need to polish their skills to take up opportunities that will come with the factories.”
