Former First Lady and President of the 31st December Women’s Movement, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has disclosed that her political movement was a mixed stock of women from diverse political parties across-board.
The 31st December Women’s Movement is a development NGO and founded with the main goal of mobilizing women, particularly the disadvantaged and vulnerable in both rural and urban areas.
The movement wanted women to understand the governance of the country and to be part of the participatory democratic system which started evolving in the 1990s.
Many would have thought that the breed of women who were actively involved in the movement would have been mainly NDC supporters but the President of the Movement and wife of ex-President Jerry John Rawlings says the 31st December Movement even had members who later served in President Kufuor’s government.
In an interaction with Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday, Nana Konadu said” some of them[women] decided they will be in NPP/CPP because that was their historical party,”
“I did bring some to NDC and now I’ve moved some to NDP,” Nana Konadu added.
Although not much is being heard from the movement currently, Nana Konadu also the Flagbearer of the NDP said the aims and objectives of the movement has changed culminating in the members drifting to other areas in the political realm.
