Market women at the Offinso Abofour market are accusing military officers of brutalising them.
The market women are unhappy with plans to move the market form that area to a new location and have threatened to demonstrate.
The Municipal Chief Executive Officer of the Offinso Municipal Assembly, Solomon Kese, called for military intervention to quell possible mayhem at the Offinso Abofour market.
But a trader, Akwasi Antwi, who spoke to Kumasi FM on Thursday, 2 Nov, 2017 alleged that the soldiers assaulted and brutalised them severely, an act they said was illegal.
He added that the traders and the youth at the Abofour market have vowed to retaliate.
“The MCE and his Assembly took monies for maintaining the new market for us, but all to no avail, we are not going to the new market today or tomorrow until necessary measures are taken to fully complete the new site before we will relocate,” he said.
Meanwhile, the MCE, Mr Kese, explained that he ordered for military intervention since the protest of the traders against their relocation was uncontrollable, which urged him to bring in heavy hands to help maintain peace in Abofour and its environs to curtail the violence of some of the traders.
