President John Dramani Mahama will today, Tuesday, December 13, join other African leaders to hold talks with Gambian president Yahya Jammeh following his rejection of the country’s electoral results.
President Jammeh, who has ruled The Gambia for over 22 years, lost last month’s election to Adama Barrow and conceded defeat but has in a U-turn rejected the result and called for a re-run.
The United Nations has asked Mr Jammeh to step down.
Joining President Mahama in The Gambia today are Liberia’s Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari, and Ernest Bai Koromah of Sierra Leone. The leaders will attempt to convince Mr Jammeh to step down.
