President John Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has so far won 50.6% of votes cast per results collated from 166 of the 275 constituencies across the country, Mr Koku Anyidoho, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC has said.
Mr Anyidoho told journalists at a press conference on Thursday, 8 December that it cannot be possible that the flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party is leading by 54% as claimed by the party’s Campaign Manager, Mr Peter Mac Manu and at a press conference earlier.
“It can’t be possible that Akufo-Addo has won by 54%. It is not possible and cannot be possible.
“… We are doing our own analysis and President Mahama is leading Nana Akufo-Addo. Out of 166 constituencies that we have done so far, the NDC and President Mahama has 50.6% and Akufo-Addo has 49.04% so President Mahama is leading Nana Akufo-Addo so the NPP should stop throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians,” Mr Anyidoho said.
According to the NDC, the Electoral Commission has detected over-voting in “a lot of polling stations in the Ashanti Region,” thus, the need to subject all results to strict verification.
He has, therefore, dared the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Sammi Awuku to hit the streets with youth of his party as he has dared, “and let us see,” adding, however that: “We don’t want violence.”
“If you have won the election and you are sure you have won, just relax and go and have a cup of tea and the EC will declare you the winner. They are churning out figures and trying to bamboozle Ghanaians,” Mr Anyidoho said, adding that: “It’s not over until the final declaration of results by the Electoral commission. Let Sammi Awuki dare and then he will meet the law on the streets.”
