The official unveiling of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange for use by the general public will take place in September this year, by which time work would have been completed on the project, Minister of Roads and Highways Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has stated.
“By September, that is the last-quarter of this year, we should be having the privilege of President John Dramani Mahama cutting the sod for the official opening of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange,” the minister told Prince Minkah on Class91.3 FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Thursday June 9.
The Minister, who was responding to issues concerning bad roads in the country, as part of the breakfast show’s Waiting Disasters series explained that on completion, the interchange will ensure that “the movement of goods and services that, hitherto, was expensive because of the slowness of the road, will be a thing of the past”.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central was optimistic that the €74.88-million project being jointly financed with credit from the Brazilian Government and the Ghana Government will improve traffic at that section of the capital.
President Mahama cut the sod for the construction of the three-tier interchange in October, 2013.
Mr Fuseini was of the view that that Ghanaians “are appreciative of the efforts of President Mahama in building social and economic infrastructure, in particular roads, to ensure the smooth movement of goods and provision of services”.
