President John Mahama has taken his campaign to the Western Region barely 24 hours after main opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo left that same region with his campaign.
The Western Region will be Mr Mahama first port of call after the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) launched its campaign in the Central Region on Sunday.
The President, the campaign launch, took a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party describing it as a party in disarray.
“The soul of the party [NPP] has been captured by the hawkish and intolerant fringe and this group has cowed the moderates and other level-headed members of the party into silence. The verbal abuse has led to a culture of silence in the party and even though the emperor is wearing no clothes, everybody is afraid to tell him so. The party has become intolerant of dissenting opinion and those who have spoken out have been promptly dealt with, removed from office, and threatened with physical harm,” Mr Mahama said on Sunday.
Having officially launched the party’s campaign, Mr Mahama, who is running for a second term on the ticket of the NDC is expected to be delving into a lot of political rhetoric as he tours the country. He will also be touting the achievements of his government’s first term in office.
