Libya has sent back to Ghana over eighty Ghanaians living in the Arab country illegally.
The deportees arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on Thursday, 27 July in the night.
Some of them had been in prison for as long as eight months before their deportation.
A lot of Ghanaians and Africans trek the perilous Sahara Desert yearly to Libya for greener pastures. A lot of them perish on the way.
In June this year, for example, 44 people died of thirst after their truck broke down in the Desert in northern Niger, the Red Cross told the BBC.
The Ghanaians and Nigerians were trying to get to Libya, according to Nigerien news site Sahelien.
Six survivors, all women, walked to a remote village and were looked after in Dirkou, Niger, Red Cross official Lawal Taher said.
They said several children were among the dead. The route from Niger to Libya is one of the main ways migrants reach North Africa before crossing the Mediterranean Sea to get to Europe.
In April this year, some 300 Ghanaians in Libya voluntarily returned home.
