A former flagbearer contender of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng has stressed on the need for the party to consolidate its base across the party if it is to win the 2016 general elections.
He contends that it will be very challenging for the NPP to secure power from the governing NDC if the party fails to mobilize enough supporters to vote for it.
Alan Kyeremanteng made the call at the eastern region during a visit to the area by the party’s flagbearer, Nana Addo as part of the rise and build tour.
“Before we can say we are winning the election decisively we must consolidate our base, we must make sure we don’t lose any vote from an NPP sympathizer,” he said.
Alan Kyeremanteng further stated called on party members to continue to support the party in the 2016 elections despite the current internal challenges.
The National Council has written to the Disciplinary Committee of the party to investigate Mr. Afoko for what it termed as a breaching the party’s constitution by making public comments on the state of the party’s finances.
They are also asking for Mr. Afoko be made to step aside until after the 2016 elections.
But the office of Mr. Afoko has described as surprising the decision taken by the National Council of the party on the fate of the National Chairman. Spokesperson for Mr. Afoko, Nana Yaw Osei however says Mr. Afoko will respond to the party’s decision at the appropriate time.
Meanwhile the five member committee instituted by the party is expected to present its report on the allegation of the diversion of some party funds by the end of next week.
