A ceremony is underway at the Police Training School at Tesano, Accra, to commemorate a week’s anniversary of the passing of Daniel Owusu, the police officer shot dead by two armed robbers at Lapaz in Accra on Thursday, July 13.
Family members and police personnel could not hold back their sorrow as they wailed uncontrollably at the event, Accra News’ Ama Brako Ampofo reports.
Several dignitaries including the police hierarchy were at the event to mourn with the family and offer their condolences. The funeral arrangements for the slain police officer are expected to be announced at the ceremony.
The late policeman and another officer – Djibril Alhassan – were on community policing duties at Lapaz on the day of the shooting. They had tried chasing down two fleeing robbers on their motorbikes on the N1 highway. Mr Alhassan was shot and sustained injuries but Mr Owusu suffered multiple gunshots and died later from his wounds.
The robbers later seized a Hyundai Elantra and made their getaway. Police have arrested 15 persons in connection with the murder to help in investigations and have placed a GHS10,000 bounty on the heads of the suspects.
