The 5-0 defeat the Black Maidens suffered at the hands of Japan in their opening game at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Jordan should be blamed on inadequate preparation because of lack of funds, Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has said.
According to him, the FA could not get money to take the Maidens through the plans and preparations that were put in place. They were also unable to leave Ghana to Jordan at the scheduled time because there was no money and this could largely be the underlying reason for the scoreline in the opening game.
Speaking in an interview with Accra Sports on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday October 4, Mr Nyantakyi said: “The Black Maidens’ poor result in their first game was because they did not have adequate preparations. We could not get money to take them through the programmes we had for them before the tournament started.”
“They could not even go at the time they were supposed to go because there was no money. They went less than one week to the start of the tournament and so I am not surprised they are not doing well in the tournament. We are only praying that they will be able to improve on their subsequent matches.”
