Government has disclosed plans of constructing a 405 housing complex including an ultra-modern police station at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra region.
The revelation comes after armed men attacked the Kwabenya police station to free seven suspects behind bars, killing one police officer in the process.
Member of Parliament for the area, Sarah Adwoa Safo, who visited the police station on Wednesday, 24, January 2018, assured residents of their maximum safety and security as plans are far advanced for the construction of the facility.
She told Class News: “I want to calm all nerves in the constituency, the appropriate authorities, Interior Minister and the IGP have all assured us of our safety in the constituency and as the MP, I want to reiterate that point that we’re all safe, government is on top of security matters in this country and we should shy away from propaganda from opposition that we are not safe.”
The lawmaker continued: “I want to take this opportunity to let the people of Dome-Kwabenya know that His Excellency the President, in the last budget, it was captured in there and we are far advanced with the procurement procedures for the president to cut sod for a project in this constituency. It is a 504 police flat. It is going to provide accommodations for the police and it’s going to be here in Kwabenya. The Atomic Energy have provided land for that project and is a PPP project and in that project, there is going to be a modern police station within that, a training center for the police and a park for them to train.”
According to her, government is aware of the challenges facing the police that is why the project had been planned to be executed but “the unfortunate has preceded the fortunate.”
