Member of Parliament for Adansi-Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has described the leadership of the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong as ‘an albatross’ haunting the party.
K.T Hammond speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Programme said the continuous frictions in the party in recent times indicate the level of problems he has brought into the NPP party since becoming the party’s chief scribe.
“I don’t see the head and tail of the reign of Kwabena Agyepong’s reign as General Secretary of the party, when you elect a General Secretary and he becomes an albatross around the party’s neck, these are the kinds of confusions you get,” he said.
There has been continuous confusion in the NPP party since the party’s chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Paul Afoko assumed office after its Tamale congress.
The two have variously been accused of sabotaging the party’s aim of recapturing political in the 2016 polls and instead championing a certain ‘Agenda 2020.’
And the suspension of voting in certain constituencies including Adansi Asokwa, K.T Hammond said, are examples of the troubles Kwabena Agyepong has brought into the party.
In the case of Adansi Asokwa, the Legislator said the chief scribe’s demand that an unqualified person be made to contest in the constituency’s primary is the cause of the delay.
“One person has been disqualified by the party’s executives, he filed an appeal but was disqualified again but Kwabena Agyepong is still demanding that the person be allowed to contest and that is the reason for the suspension of the primary here…,” he said.
The former Deputy Energy Minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration also claimed the unnamed opponent engaged in acts of ‘forgery’ and is thus not qualified to contest.
