Some students of Kumasi Academy have rejected conclusions of Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu that the recent deaths in the school were caused by Influenza type A H1N1 2009 pandemic strain (Swine Flu) insisting there is a spiritual cause.
Mr Agyemang-Manu told journalists at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, December 7, that Influenza type A H1N1 2009 pandemic strain (Swine Flu) was isolated from 12 out of 19 samples at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.
“About two hours ago, reports from further tests were received confirming Influenza type A H1N1 2009 pandemic strain (Swine Flu),” Agyemang-Manu said.
However, the students believe the deaths are spiritual and should be treated as such.
Some of the students who spoke to Adehye FM’s Elisha Adarkwah said they were surprised about why the sickness has affected their school only and not others in the region. A similar outbreak linked to meningitis occurred in March this year which also resulted in deaths.
“…That is what they (GHS) are saying, but we the students, we don’t believe it is Swine Flu. We believe that it is a spiritual case and we are praying to God to descend and help us,” one student explained.
Another student stated: “We think it is a spiritual matter because there are a lot of SHS schools in Ghana but it is only KUMACA who is facing these problems. So if it was Swine Flu, it would have happened to most SHS schools but it is only happening here, so, we think it is a spiritual matter”.
They, therefore, demanded that Ministers of God, both home and abroad, be sent to the school to intervene through intercessory prayers to fight for them spiritually.
