The Driver of the tipper truck that ploughed through traders and pedestrians at the Adehye market near Kumasi Race Course killing two women on the spot has been arrested by police.
The MTTD Commander at the Suame Divisional Police Command, Mr K.K. Kawudie who confirmed the arrest to Accra100.5FM’s Elisha Adarkwah declined to mention the driver’s name but indicated that he reported himself to the police and currently in police custody for questioning.
He said, the bodies of the deceased have been identified by their families as Bernice Tay, 24, a student of St Louis College of Education and Oforibuo Ama Badu, 26.
He said the DAF tipper truck with registration number AS 9817-13 that killed the two women belongs to Oson’s Chemist, adding that police have met with the owner of the company concerning the accident.
“We have now started investigations into the matter to unravel the cause of the accident,” he said.
The bodies have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue.
Irrespective of Monday’s accident, traders were still selling on the roadside when Elisha Adarkwah visited the accident scene today, Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
According to them, they have no other alternative place to ply their trade, though they fear for their lives.
They, therefore, called on the Kumasi metropolitan Assembly to relocate them to a suitable place.
