Francis Kofi Amaoh, the Engineer manning the Kpong Water Treatment Plant, has revealed that activities by some fishermen and other factories nearby are threatening the plant.
According to him, if measures are not put in place to halt these activities, the nation will be hit with a disaster on the plant.
He noted while speaking on the Ghana Yensom show hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Accra 100.5FM on Thursday March 22, that recently some chemicals being used by the Akomsobo Textiles Limited found their way into the river, thereby doubling the work of the plant in treating the water.
He also indicated some fishermen are using dangerous chemicals in fishing, another situation that endangers the treatment plant hence measures must be put in place by the state to halt these activities.
He said : “For the past two years several activities have been threatening the plant. We had some problems with the Akosmobo Textile Limited where some of the chemicals they were used found their way into the river and that was a problem for us.
“Similarly, we have fishermen who engage in their activities using dangerous chemicals, this poses a threat to the water treatment plant and so we want the authourities to take an action that will protect the river and also the plant.”
