Ashanti Gold will be hosted by Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi as they face each other in the cup competition to honour the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The game is expected to be cagy due to the rivalry between these sides and from the backdrop that Ashgold are the new champions of Ghana they would want to confirm their superiority in the country, while Kotoko would also want to win their first title for the season.
The Miners at a point in the season had won four straight matches against the Porcupine Warriors, but the last two encounters have gone the way of the Kumasi based side.
Meanwhile, the Miners have threatened to boycott the game, following comments on U-TV one of the organisers of the match by a sports analyst that they are not worthy champions.
“It is high time people watched their comments on radio and on TV. It is surprising that U-TV who are one of the organisers of the Otumfuo Cup will allow somebody to allege that Ashgold are not the worthy champions of the league on their platform.
“I am breaking our players from camp; we (Ashgold) will not honour the Otumfuo Cup. They should go for the true champions to come and play,” Kudjoe Fianoo, the CEO of Ashgold fc told Hot FM.
