Some traders at Kumasi Borla-Ho in the Ashanti Region are protesting against the increase of the market toll by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
The traders were paying 50p per day, but the Assembly has increased it to Ghc1 with promise to clean the area by its sanitary workers.
Some of the traders who spoke to Accra FM’s Elisha Adarkwah said the Assembly has failed to utilise the tolls collected earlier in cleaning the markets and other areas within the capital, therefore they will resist any increment.
“We still have to clean this place irrespective of the Assembly’s promise to increase the market toll in other to clean the market. We have started paying, but they have never come here to clean since Monday they started collecting the increment,” a trader said.
They have therefore called on the city authority to abide by their promise to clean the market, or else they will not pay the increment.
