With the NPP aiming to secure a decisive majority of seats in parliament, as well as securing the majority of parliamentary seats, Nana Akufo-Addo has appealed to supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Klottey Korle constituency not to entertain any thoughts of voting ‘skirt and blouse’ – an arrangement where a voter decides to vote for presidential and parliamentary candidates belonging to separate parties – in the December elections
He, thus, urged all NPP supporters in Klottey Korle to rally behind the party’s parliamentary candidate, Philip Addison, recounting his own experience in 1998 when he fully supported then candidate John Agyekum Kufuor to enable the NPP win the 2000 elections.
His appeal follows the decision by Nii Noi Nortey who lost the parliamentary primaries, to contest in the elections as an independent parliamentary candidate in the constituency.
Speaking with supporters in the constituency on Saturday August 20, Mr Akufo Addo said: “A true NPP member always accepts the decision of the party’s Electoral College. When it’s your turn, the party will reward you. That is why I am also here today as flag bearer of the NPP. So those trumpeting ‘skirt and blouse’ should stop, and rather help Philip Addison and push him to parliament.”
“This is a gentleman (Phillip Addison) who is well-known in every part of Ghana. We all saw his heroics during the election petition. As an advocate in parliament, you can be sure that the concerns of Klottey Korle will be well-articulated before parliament. The NPP’s candidate for Klottey Korle is Philip Addison. We have no other candidate.”
