Kid Cudi announced on his Facebook Tuesday night that he had checked himself into rehab for “depression and suicidal urges.”
The 32-year-old rapper and actor entered treatment on Monday, writing that he felt “ashamed.” “I am not at peace. I haven’t been since you’ve known me. If I didn’t come here, I would’ve done something to myself. I simply am a damaged human swimming in a pool of emotions everyday of my life,” he revealed.
The “Pursuit of Happiness” singer, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, continued by admitting that he never left his home because of the anxiety he felt.
“My anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember,” he wrote. “I cant make new friends because of it. I don’t trust anyone because of it and I’m tired of being held back in my life. I deserve to have peace.”
Cudi added that he felt like he’d “let a lot of people down” and that it was “time I fix me.” The Cleveland, Ohio native assured fans that his next album, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’, is “still on the way” although he does not expect to promote much of it. It was slated to drop last week, according to EW, but was recently delayed.
A new release date has yet to be announced, but Cudi wrote he hoped that it would be out “in time for Complexcon.” “I wanted to square away all the business before I got here so I could focus on my recovery,” he shared.
“I am sorry if I let anyone down. I really am sorry. Ill be back, stronger, better. Reborn. I feel like sh–, I feel so ashamed. I’m sorry.”
