Political Scientist Dr Kpessa Whyte has criticised the leader of the biggest opposition party in Kenya, Raila Odinga for his outright dismissal of provisional results in the August 8 polls.
Mr Odinga argues the Electoral Commission’s IT system had been hacked to manipulate the election results which points to a strong lead for the incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta.
Electoral officials have said with 91 per cent of results in, Mr Kenyatta is leading with about 54.5 per cent, to Mr Odinga’s 44.6 per cent.
Commenting on the development World Affairs on Class91.3FM on Friday, August 11, 2017, Dr Whyte said: “It is a little too early for the leader of the opposition to come out the way he did in terms of rejecting the results”.
He further noted that “Almost all the international observer missions who went into different locations in Kenya have said that what they have seen in terms of the conduct of the people, institutional layout and participation of the political parties and their observers and polling agents show them that the process so far is credible and that if the process continues as laid out, there should be no problem whatsoever.”
Dr Whyte was therefore displeased on how the opposition leader is discrediting the results.
