Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has revealed that he ordered CEO of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Dr Felix Anyah not to terminate a revenue-collection contract that existed between Ghana’s premier referral hospital and local bank uniBank.
According to him, Dr Anyah, nonetheless, had the contract abrogated despite his warnings that it could land the government in a judgment debt quagmire.
He wondered why the acting KBTH CEO went ahead to terminate the contract despite express warnings against taking such actions.
The hospital, following an intervention from the presidency and the Ministry of Health, rescinded its decision.
KBTH issued a statement at the weekend claiming uniBank failed to make itself available for the bidding process thus the awarding of the contract to Stanbic Bank, but uniBank, in a counterstatement described the claim as false and distorted.
The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service recently cleared deputy chiefs of staff Samuel Abu Jinapor and Francis Asenso-Boakye of any wrongdoing through their intervention in the matter following a protest letter uniBank wrote to the hospital which was copied to the Flagstaff House.
Muscian A-Plus has earlier accused to two presidential staffers of acting corrupty in the matter. He later withdrew those allegations saying Mr Jinapor and Mr Asenso-Boakye appeared to have been misled by uniBank in the whole affair.
