The opposition New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary nominee for the Karaga constituency in the Northern Region, Shaharawi Bashiru, has stepped down with just three months to the general elections.
Mr Bashiru resigned as parliamentary nominee on health grounds, Class FM’s Northern Regional correspondent Abdul Dahim reported on Tuesday September 13.
Mr Bashiru on Saturday November 7, 2015 escaped death narrowly when the V8 vehicle he and two others were travelling in burst a front tyre and rammed into a tree killing the two individuals instantly on the Kumasi-Kintampo highway.
Mr Bashiru himself was initially thought to have died but showed signs of life as he was being put into a morgue.
Sources say Mr Bashiru has been advised to resign from the race so he could focus on recovering his health. This means the NPP will elect a new person to replace him.
