Harry Kane is targeting the Ballon d’Or and even more goals in 2018, with the Tottenham striker determined to join the global elite.
The England international has become one of the most fearsome frontmen in world football and is currently chasing down a third successive Premier League Golden Boot.
He has recorded 50 goals in the calendar year of 2017 and finished 10th in the recent countdown of the best players on the planet.
That, though, is not enough for the talented 24-year-old and he is determined to emulate the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo by becoming a regular contender for top collective and individual honours.
Kane told reporters after netting twice in his latest outing against Stoke to reach a half-century for the year: “It’s been a good year for me and it’s one I am happy with but my aim is always to try and win competitions and win the Ballon d’Or.
“Fifty goals is a good mark to get to and there are a few more games left, so, hopefully, I can get a few more.
“For me it’s about whether I can beat that next year — 2018 is time to improve and get better and, hopefully, do more and win more as well.
“At the end of the day I finished tenth in the Ballon d’Or, not first.
“To make that step up it takes winning trophies with your club. Premier Leagues, FA Cups, Champions Leagues, that’s the only way to get better and progress. We are quite a way behind this year.
“What every player wants to achieve is to win trophies.
“Some people might say we have been unfortunate in the last couple of years but it hasn’t happened for us.
“We are still in competitions this year that we can go far in, so that’s what we have got to try and achieve.”
Kane’s efforts this season have seen him pass the 100-goal mark for Spurs, while he is now just 10 short of reaching a century of Premier League efforts.
That target could be reached before the end of 2017-18, with the in-form frontman aiming to pass the 20-goal mark in English top-flight competition for a fourth successive campaign.
