The debate about whether or not Ghanaian midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng should be recalled to the national team should be left entirely in the hands of the Black Stars’ technical team headed by Coach Avram Grant, former skipper of the national team, C.K Akunnor has said.
While some are of the opinion that Boateng’s form at Spanish side Las Palmas should warrant a call-up, others believe his disciplinary issues in Brazil rule him out of contention.
The Dzamefe Commission set up to probe the matters surrounding Ghana’s poor showing at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil stated in its report that the player, together with Sulley Muntari, did not deserve a place in the team for their acts of insubordination.
Ace sports journalist Kwbena Yeboah has also argued that the former AC Milan star should not be given another opportunity in the team.
Speaking to Class Sports on the issue, Akunnor said: “We all know that there have been issues between Kevin and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and once that is solved, then he can join. But the key issue is once they are interested and once they believe this guy can help, the technical team can convince management to sort it out. So I believe this should be left for the technical men to handle”.
