Members of the Coalition of Unemployed Private Nurses are expected to picket the Ministry of Health (MoH) over government’s failure to post them after several years of completing colleges of health.
The group has accused government of discriminating against its members in the ongoing posting of health sector workers. They said government has failed to provide them jobs despite several assurances.
They argue that they are equally qualified to be recruited by the government to serve in various public health institutions.
General Secretary of the Coalition, Emmanuel Nanor told Class News their action today is intended to pile pressure on the authorities to act.
“We are walking to the Ministry of Health and our members are going to tell them their grievances and speak their mind because we have been doing it in an official way by providing letters but now that is where it has gotten to. … Every day, we have people posted and you will realise that there is no private nurses part of the posting. Some few days ago, about 11,000 workers were posted by the Ministry and out of the 11,000 no private nurse is part of it, and, so we see it as discrimination on the part of government,” he stated.
The Coalition had postponed the picketing originally scheduled for Monday, 17 July to today 31 July 2017.
