President John Dramani Mahama has revealed Japan will continue to remain Ghana’s key development partner.
He made this comment when he met with the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during the 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) in Nairobi, Kenya, on Friday August 26.
The Japanese government has over the years embarked on several development programmes include the signing of trade agreements with Ghana.
For instance, last year, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the two governments signed a grant agreement of $1.2 million towards sponsoring 10 young government officials to pursue their Master’s degree programmes in Japanese universities. The scholarship, under the Human Resource Development programme, targeted highly capable, young government officials expected to help in formulating and implementing social and economic development plans for Ghana’s prosperity.
It is against some of these programmes instituted by the Japanese government that President Mahama has said the country will continue to remain a key development partner of Ghana.
Mr Mahama tweeted: “Met with Japanese PM @AbeShinzo a while ago in Nairobi. Japan remains our key dev’t partner. #TICAD6NAIROBI.”
