Former president John Dramani Mahama has asked Ghanaians to disregard information circulating on social media that he has got a new appointment from the United Nations to Co-Chair the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Advocacy group.
According to the former president, his appointment as the Co-chair of SDG advocacy group was last year January when he was President.
He noted that the messages people are sharing are the UN statement from January 2016 announcing the appointment and his statements at the 2016 Davos Forum.
“Folks! I have no new UN appointment. The Co-chair of SDG advocacy group appointment was last year January when I was Prez. Thanks.”
“What many are sharing are the UN statement from January 2016 announcing the appt & my statements at the 2016 Davos Forum.”
Mr Mahama and the Prime Minister of Norway, Ms Erna Solberg, were last year appointed Co-Chairs of a group of sixteen (16) eminent Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Advocates to support the Secretary-General in his efforts to generate momentum and commitment to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
The SDGs adopted by world leaders at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015 represent a commitment by all nations to work together to end poverty, achieve shared prosperity, build peace, and secure a life of dignity and a healthy planet for present and future generations.
