The incumbent Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, has refuted media reports claiming she has withdrawn her decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming parliamentary election.
She clarified that, she remains firm in her decision to contest.
“I am still running as independent candidate in the parliamentary election for Agona West constituency. It’s a false rumour; I haven’t stepped down. I’m still running as an independent candidate ,” she said in an interview on Asempa FM on October 22.
Madam Cynthia Morrison is among four Members of Parliament, three of who are New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, whose seats have been declared vacant by Speaker Alban Bagbin. The Speaker’s declaration follows the decision by the affected MPs to contest the December 7 election as Independent Candidates, contrary to the provisions of Article 97 (g)(h).
Earlier, there were media reports that claimed that after meetings with the leadership of the NPP in parliament, Madam Morrison had decided not to contest again.
Madam Morrison said “no such decision has been taken.”
Asked what she is doing about the declaration of her seat vacant, the former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection said, “the issue is being handled by my lawyers.”
