The Convener for pressure group, Progressive Nationalists Forum (PNF), Richard Nyamah, is convinced that investigations into the supposed misconduct of Lauretta Lamptey, the former Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) is progressing steadily.
According to him, the five-member committee set up to investigate the former CHRAJ Commissioner will soon release its report on the matter.
This follows calls by anti-graft body, Ghana Integrity initiative (GII) that is calling on the government and the Chief Justice to fast track the investigations.
According to a statement signed by the Executive Director of GII, Vitus A. Azeem, “the continued silence of the Committee and the Chief Justice on the matter seems to be telling Ghanaians that the Judiciary could be going down the same lane as the Executive.”
He argued that if Ms. Lauretta Lamptey has been cleared, she should be reinstated as the Commissioner of CHRAJ and if she has been found guilty, the necessary sanctions should apply.
“Justice cannot afford to be delayed, especially by the Judiciary,” he added.
But Speaking on Eyewitness News, Richard Nyamah, who petitioned the President to get Lauretta Lamptey impeached and currently helping in investigations, disagrees that the committee is delaying on the matter.
“I personally understand the stance of the GII and Mr. Vitus Azeem, he has been in this fight against corruption like the PNF and other civil society organizations so they are eager to see some results. I am in the trenches and I know what is going on.”
“I know the Chief Justice and the committee set up to look into the matter are doing their work. The processes involve some legalese and technical details; unfortunately I will not be able to go into them,” Nyamah added.
He noted that “I am as eager to conclude on this matter as he [Vitus Azeem] is.”
“There is no foul play, everything is running smoothly and shortly rather than later, I’m sure some finding would be put out there. I must commend the Chief Justice and committee so far on the work done,” Nyamah added.
