This year’s Inter-Bases Sports competition is underway at the Air Force Base in Takoradi where participating teams (Bases) are competing in football, basketball, cross-country race, table tennis, badminton and tug of war.
The competition, which started last Monday and ends tomorrow, is being held under the auspices of Air Vice Marshal Samson-Oje, Chief of Air Staff.
In the opening match, Accra Air Force Base Soccer team beat their Takoradi counterparts by 3-1, while Accra beat Takoradi in the men’s tug-of-war contest but Takoradi women’s team were declared winners after Accra failed to show up.
The competition aims at selecting qualified and talented personnel from each Base, namely Accra, Takoradi and Tamale, to constitute a team for the Ghana Air Force for this year’s Ghana Armed Forces Games scheduled to take place in November.
The opening ceremony last Monday was preceded by a parade of the three competing teams, after which Group Captain Nana Felix Adom Asante, the Takoradi Base Commander, addressed the contingents and asked them to exhibit a high sense of sportsmanship.
He said apart from unearthing talents to form a formidable team for the upcoming Ghana Armed Forces Games, the competition was to ensure fitness in the soldiers.
