Over 50 per cent of respondents in a survey conducted by policy think tank IMANI have expressed dissatisfaction with the government and want monies lost through mismanagement and perceived dubious deals recovered.
10,020 respondents were interviewed in the survey across the country.
The Head of Economics at IMANI, Patrick Stephenson, who presented the report at a press conference, said: “It is interesting to see that more than 50 per cent of respondents we spoke to expected the government or whichever government to retrieve resources that had been lost”.
He further indicated: “If you have to juxtapose this response or these results to the fact that if we have had cases where we are not too sure whether resources have been retrieved by the state for the people of Ghana, it becomes very worrying.”
Based on the finding, he wondered if “politicians are doing the things that citizens are looking for”.
Interviewees in the Ashanti Region topped the list of respondents making the request with over 68%.
They were followed by those in the Upper East Region (64%) and then the Western Region (60%).
Just recently, Mr Boakye Agyarko, the Policy Advisor to the presidential nominee of the opposition NPP’s flag bearer said at a press conference that the Mahama administration “stole” GHS1billion through the GYEEDA programme.
