Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini has said that he is no troublemaker as he has been projected by some of his political opponents.
“I have never been a troublemaker and I am not about to start being one,” he told Moro Awudu on Class FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Monday April 3.
He, however, noted that he does not accept “disrespect” or people who try to “push him over”, adding: “I was raised with discipline, but [I am] not timid.”
Mr Suhuyini has said colleague lawmakers for Manhyia South, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, and Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, rained insults on him during a debate on the floor of parliament on Thursday, 30 March 2017.
He said while Dr Opoku Prempeh referred to him as a “mad” man, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful also hurled other insults at him at the same time.
According to Mr Suhuyini, “I told him [Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh] that he was equally mad and that is when my colleagues came to calm me down. They didn’t think I should respond in like manner.
Subsequently a video started circulating on social media over what happened that day where Mr Prempeh was seen making gestures to someone who could not be readily identified in the video.
But Mr Suhuyini said the video vindicates him and that he is not the troublemaker in parliament as some members of the Majority would like the public to believe.
“The Majority Leader has said before that that I am carving an image of bringing fire to the house or something to that effect. I came to parliament to represent the good people of Tamale North and the NDC family in general, and I will not comprise under any circumstance when it comes to defending the interest of the party I represent in parliament and the interest of the constituents I so represent,” he added.
For him, “if defending that interest at any time makes me a trouble maker, then I will wear it as a badge of honour”.
