The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has urged the general public to disregard news making the rounds on social media that some anti-malaria drugs purportedly linked to kidney failure had been withdrawn from the EU market.
A statement issued by the FDA asked the general public to disregard the circulation and treat it with the contempt it deserves.
The FDA statement noted that it periodically samples and performs analyses of anti-malarials in its ISO-accredited laboratory to ensure they are of the right quality.
The statement said: “The general public is, therefore, advised to disregard the information and continue to use artemisinin combination therapy as being administered under the National Malaria Control Programme.”
