Young rapper Awal Mohammed has disclosed he will decline signing unto Sarkcess Music, the record label of award-winning rapper Sarkodie.
Awal, who was discovered during TV3’s child talent show Talented Kids, had Sarkodie as his mentor and copied the 2014 BET Award winner’s style of rap and mannerisms on stage.
Awal, who emerged winner of the talent show, was adopted by Sarkodie with many hiplife and hip hop fans hoping he would sign the young rapper unto his label Sarkcess Music.
After five years of being together, Awal told Bismark Boachie (DJ Premier) host of Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM that Sarkodie did not sign him and although there was no problem between them, he would also decline signing unto the Sarkcess label.
“If he (Sarkodie) wants to help me that’s OK, but I’ll not sign unto his label. I want to do my own thing,” Awal said.
“He never said he would sign me and I didn’t also ask him to sign me. I was with him for five years. I believe, maybe, it’s not time for him to sign me. I believe whatever happens is God’s will.”
According to Awal, however, he will continue to see Sarkodie as his father and show him respect whenever their paths cross.
“I’m on my own but we are cool and when I see him I’ll still give him respect as my father. I’ll salute him but right now I’m working on my own. I didn’t’ leave his camp but he never signed me unto his label. He told Ghanaians he would collaborate on a song with me and we did it and now I’m working on my own,” he said.
