Ghana’s ‘King of Comedy’ Derrick Kobina Bonney, aka DKB, has said he will not campaign for any political party ahead of the December elections.
Although some Ghanaian celebrities, such as Kumawood actress Tracy Boakye, actors Clement Bonney and John Dumelo, musicians Kwabena Kwabena, A Plus, among others, have publicly declared their political affiliations and support for their preferred candidates, DKB, speaking on ‘E on Class’ with Natalia Andoh on Class91.3FM said Ghana has not attained political maturity for him to declare his support for any political party.
“… I won’t do that,” he stated in response to a question put to him if he intended campaigning for any of the political parties in the country ahead of the 2016 polls.
“But it’s OK if you are dealing with a developed country. Even in Nigeria, stars campaign for political parties and after the political season, everybody is back to normal. But in Ghana, politics is one inch away from sentimentality. Once they don’t like a party [and] you campaign for the party, they don’t like you too, and even after the political season, they still won’t like you.”
