Joe Sarbah may not be a household name in the pugilistic sport, but the Kumasi-based boxer has promised to retire his cruiserweight opponent Ayittey Powers on September 12 at the Wembley Sports Complex, Kotobabi in Accra.
“I will beat you; it will be like a car knocking down a fowl, and I know this will make you hang your gloves. I have really prepared for this bout so my fans should watch out,” he told news men at a press conference last Friday.
Sarbah, who appeared unassuming but resolute, hails for the Northern region. He demonstrated some shadow boxing during the event.
And with a strong backing from few of his countrymen, who sang and danced passionately, he convinced the gathering what he is capable of.
Typical of Powers, he arrived late with a large entourage who were in their elements.
They chanted and sang before and after the press briefing.
Powers also said “You won’t last, you will not go beyond round five. I will beat you up like my son. I haven’t lost any fight since I lost to Banku.”
Put together by Wembley Promotions and themed ‘Night of Fire’, the main bout will see Emmanuel Quartey, nicknamed Akufo Addo clash with Isaac Nettey in a Commonwealth Eliminator, while Maxwell Awuku will face Richard Amefu in a Lightweight contest.
Isaac Dogbe and Raymond Ansah would fight in a Featherweight Contest.
Yakubu Kareem would clash with Gali Cudjoe in an International Bantamweight contest in one of the bouts.
