President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to protect the interests of Ghanaians, promising to serve them with his “heart and soul.” In a Facebook post to mark his 57th birthday on Sunday, President Mahama thanked Ghanaians for their support during his tenure in office.
“So soon another year of my life has passed. I took an oath to dedicate myself to the service and well-being of the people of Ghana, and I stand firmly by that oath. I am humbled by your support, and I thank you all for your kind wishes,” President Mahama said in the post “I will continue to serve all of you with all my heart and soul! May God bless you all! May God bless our homeland Ghana!” he added.
John Mahama was confirmed as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) last Sunday, earning a little over 95 percent of votes. The NDC maintains that the president retains the support of the Ghanains who voted for him during the last general elections. However, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have argued that the percentage of ‘No’ votes during last weekend’s polls are indicative of a feeling of discontent, even among the NDC’s ranks.
