Moises Caicedo’s potential move to Liverpool has hit a snag following the player’s desire to ‘only join’ Chelsea who are believed to submit another bid to Brighton for the player.
The Ecuadorian had been on the radar of Chelsea throughout the transfer window with the London-based club seeing a series of offers rejected as Brighton remained firm on getting £100m for the 21-year-old dynamic midfielder.
Liverpool on the other hand raised the proposed amount to £110m in a bid to hijack Chelsea’s major target. The Reds were given the green light to discuss personal terms with the player and eventually run him through the mandatory medical examination.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed an earlier report by SkySports suggesting Chelsea still had a chance given the player’s preference.
“Moises Caicedo is having second thoughts about the move to Liverpool. The player and his representatives are still in London amid reports Chelsea are coming back in for him,” a report from SkySports said.
“Moisés Caicedo has just informed Liverpool that he only wants to join Chelsea!
“Caicedo has decided to keep his word and only accept Chelsea as personal terms were agreed since end of May. Chelsea, set to bid again in order to get deal done with Brighton,” Fabrizio tweeted on Friday morning.
Chelsea is keen on smashing their transfer record to get the player who has been identified as a long-term replacement for departed Ngolo Kante who joined the Saudi Pro League after a successful spell with the club.
The ‘Moises Caicedo saga’ makes more intriguing the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Chelsea on Sunday.
