Award-winning gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy has revealed she found it difficult turning her back on her passion – teaching – to become a musician.
“I love teaching, I always wanted to be a teacher just like my mother, and so after secondary school I entered the training college to become a teacher,” she told Nana Romeo on Ayekoo Ayekoo on Accra100.5FM on Friday October 28.
According to the Edin Jesus hit maker, she found it difficult leaving the classroom when she received the calling to sing.
“When you take up music, the ministry grows and so I had to stop teaching and concentrate on my music, but it wasn’t easy coming out of the classroom,” she stated.
She revealed that despite dropping her passion for music, she still had some young students she enjoyed teaching.
According to her, she has succeeded in her musical career by heeding the voice of God to sing but added: “I love teaching.”
Known as Mercy Twum-Ampofo, she entered the Ghana gospel music industry in 2004 with the hit song Adamfo Papa, which enjoyed massive airplay. She has since released five albums and credited with hit songs like Wobεyε Kεse, Ɔbεyε Ama Wo, Wofiri Mu, among others.
