The National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abankwah Yeboah has denied diverting party’s funds without following due process.
A letter from the Police inviting Mr. Abankwah and the first Vice National Chairman of the party for questioning, said the Police were investigating a case of alleged diversion of funds.
“The CID is investigating a case of alleged diversion of funds by the first Vice National Chairman Freddie Blay and Treasurer of the party, Mr. Abankwah Yeboah contrary to laid down party procedures.” “You are therefore kindly invited to meet the investigative team at the CID headquarters on Friday August 28, 2015,” the letter noted.
However, the party’s treasurer, in an interview with Citi News, denied the allegation saying, “that is not true, there is nothing like that.”
The letter also alleged that the two had opened an unapproved Ecobank account, but Mr. Yeboah refuted those claims, and said “all accounts operated by the NPP are all party accounts handed over by NPP predecessors.”
Though Freddy Blay has been called by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for a meeting, Mr. Abankwah indicated that he is “yet to receive a call from the CID for a meeting.”
He claimed his detractors are scheming to indict him and Freddy Blay but they are all political distractions.”
In another development, Freddy Blay has declined an invitation by the Police CID, saying the issue is a party matter and should be dealt with internally.
