School of Hygiene students are threatening to hit the streets over the failure of government to restore their allowance that was scrapped in 2015.
The students from Ho, Tamale and Accra Schools of Hygiene last year, embarked on a series of actions including boycotting lectures, to press home their demands.
Water and Sanitation Minister, Joseph Kofi Ada, intervened and persuaded the aggrieved students to call off the boycott.
The students claim the minister pledged to have their grievances addressed but that promise has not been honoured.
Speaking to Class News, President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Accra School of Hygiene, Samuel Agyiri, expressed disappointment with the minister and hinted at plans to begin the agitation.
He said: “After all the minister said and the readiness he showed, they’ve still not paid us and we’re highly disappointed.”
According to him, they were expecting the allowance to be restored in February but that has not been done.
He noted that the minister has taken them for granted because they agreed to go back to class and write their exams the last time they encountered him, but this time, “We have plans for him and with time, he’ll surely hear from us.”
