Gov’t deliberately collapsing Mahama projects – Ex-MCE

The Akufo-Addo-led government has adopted a deliberate policy to collapse all projects undertaken by the Mahama administration, especially in the health sector, Sam Atuquaye Quaye, a former Municipal Chief Executive for Ga West, has said.

According to him, the previous administration secured funding for the construction of more hospitals to attend to the health needs of Ghanaians, however, the current government, he said, has abandoned those projects.

Mr Quaye mentioned a newly-built hospital located at Ofankor, a suburb of Accra, to buttress his accusation.

The ex-MCE told Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM Wednesday, 20 June that the only work left to be done on that hospital is to furnish it with equipment

“I want to plead with this government that they should do something about it.

“It appears this government intends to abandon all the projects done by the previous administration and that is not the best. The funds used for the projects did not belong to John Mahama, they belonged to the people of Ghana.

“Sometimes, I feel very sorry as a former MCE for the area because it appears all the efforts we made to ameliorate the hardship of Ghanaians are going to waste.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has said there was no budget allocation for the procurement of equipment for that hospital by the previous government.

Mr Robert Cudjoe, Public Relations Officer of the MoH, told show host Forson that: “The Ministry of Health was not involved in the planning for the construction of that hospital, and, so, it was difficult to come.

“We at the Ministry saw the document and realised that procurement of equipment was not factored into the contract but this government has started the process to get the equipment into the facility for it to start operation.”
