The Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Traditional Area, Obrempong Nyamfo Krampah XI, has conferred on President John Dramani Mahama the title of Ahobrasehen – to wit, King of Humility.
According to him, the president has demonstrated that he is a humble leader who does not intend to plunge the country into any form of chaos.
During Mr Mahama’s visit to the area on Tuesday, 6 September as part of his five-day campaign tour of the Central Region, the paramount chief said: “With the powers vested in me as the paramount chief of the Gomoa Traditional Area, I confer on him (President John Dramani Mahama) Ahobrasehen.”
Obrempong Krampah XI also used the occasion to thank the president for fulfilling his promise to abrogate the contract of the company working on the Dawurampong-Afransi road and awarding it to a new contractor. He, however, appealed to Mr Mahama to mount pressure on the new contractor to speed up work on the road.
He also implored the president to provide the area with a fishing harbour at Gomoa Munford and elevate the Gomoa West district to a municipality considering the overwhelming support the NDC draws from all of Gomoa.
“Goma East has an NDC Member of Parliament, Gomoa Central has an NDC MP, Gomoa West has an NDC MP – that is an indication that the people of Gomoa have accepted the NDC and so we will continue to support the NDC. We pray for God’s wisdom for the president to continue governing the country,” he said.
Mr Mahama, speaking to the chiefs and people of the area, stated that his government had undertaken several development projects covering education, health, and electricity. “We recently cut the sod for the construction of a new, modern 60-bed polyclinic at Gomoa Dawurampong in order to improve on the quality of health care delivery in the area. We have also built schools – the community day senior high schools to ensure accessibility for students who leave the Junior High Schools in Gomoa Gyaman. We have also extended electricity to several communities in the area.”
Just a few days ago, the chiefs and people of the Chakale Traditional Area, in the Wa East constituency of the Upper West Region, also conferred the title “Chief of Patience” on the 2016 presidential nominee of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The ceremony took place at the palace of the Bulenga Naa, on Sunday, September 4, when the NPP flag bearer paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Chakale Traditional Area, Bulenga Naa Seidu Nawalogne IV, on the second day of his tour of the Region.
Explaining the rationale for the conferment of the title, the Bulenga Naa told the NPP flag bearer that “we have listened to you, and we know you very well. There is one good example of your actions, which points to your love for Ghana, and that is what happened in Ghana after the 2013 presidential election petition.”
According to the Chief, “the ruling did not go in your favour, but you came out clearly and told every Ghanaian to take heart. You told the people that if anyone claims to love you, love the NPP and love Ghana, they should forget about whatever has transpired.”
The Bulenga Naa further noted that, Nana Akufo-Addo’s actions meant that “Ghana has been peaceful since then. We are very grateful for your actions.”
