Ghanaian footballer Edward Sarpong, popularly known as Jnr Marcelo, has qualified his club Portimonense from the Portuguese Segunda (First Division) to the top flight Primeira Liga.
The 20-year-old defender played 26 matches for his side to ensure promotion.
Speaking to Accra Sports on Monday May 22, Jnr Marcelo, who joined the side two years ago, said: “I thank God for helping me with this achievement. I am so happy that I contributed to my team’s qualification to the first league.
“The club went on relegation for so many years. I am happy that as a young player, 20 years, I am part of the success story now.”
He further stated that several top notch clubs in Europe have approached him for his signature due to his impressive performance.
“Before the season ended, I had good offers but I have a good relationship with my team. I am not in a hurry to leave the club,” he said.
