Ghanaian movies are recognised around the world including countries like Jamaica, Haiti and Suriname, actress Jackie Appiah has said.
According to her, although Ghanaian movies were yet to catch up with the industry in Hollywood, they were popular as they transcend the borders of Africa.
Speaking on the Class Drive on Class91.3FM on Friday October 7, Jackie Appiah told host Prince Benjamin that she would score Ghanaian movies above average on a scale of 1-10.
“Hollywood is Hollywood, Ghanaian movies are getting there and I’m really happy because everywhere I go around the world, people recognise me and they recognise Ghanaian movies and they always talk about movies we’ve done here,” the award-winning actress stated.
“I go to the States and Jamaicans approach me and say: ‘Oh my God, I watched your movie all the way in Jamaica!’ People from Haiti watch it; people from Suriname, people are watching our movies everywhere. I was … on United Air and British Airways and our movies were being played on these flights, so, our movies are getting there and people are appreciating our work and I believe as time goes on, we will get better.”
