‘Ghana hasn’t broken the chain of corruption’ – OccupyGhana

Pressure group, OccupyGhana has questioned government’s efforts in curbing corruption in the nation saying, Ghana has not yet broken the chain of corruption. According to the group, “instead of ridding itself of the shameful tag of the new Gold Coast of corruption, Ghana under the current dispensation has witnessed countless acts of high level corruption.”

The group lamented that the judiciary which is the last resort for citizens to address such “grand political corruption,” has also been compromised, “strengthening rather than helping to break the chain of corruption.” OccupyGhana made the comment to commemorate the 2015 International Anti-Corruption Day dubbed: “Break the corruption chain.” A number of corruption cases have been recorded in the country in recent times. President John Mahama on Wednesday rejected reports that Ghana has been ranked the second most corrupt country in Africa. He explained that government has taken a number of measures to make corruption unattractive to those willing to indulge in it.

But OccupyGhana in a statement urged government to crack the whip on those found culpable to help the nation break the chain. They also admonished Ghanaians to “join in the fight to break our chain of corruption.” OccupyGhana further assured that it will not rest until “there is finality to the litany of administrative infractions and corrupt acts which we have identified and provided leadership, both administrative and legal in dealing with them. OccupyGhana will help break the chain of corruption for God and Country.”
