Mr Mahama Ayariga, Minister of Environment, Science Technology and Innovation, would on Thursday open a four day Ghana Garden and Flower Show (GGFS) in Accra.
A statement to the Ghana News Agency from STRATCOM Africa, organisers of the show said the GGFS, which begins on Thursday September 10, would be on the theme: “The World is Your Garden” and focus on the environmental and economic benefits of horticulture and floriculture.
It said the event, aimed at promoting a flower and gardening movement in Ghana, would have a Conference, Adult and Kids Workshops, Fashion Extravaganza, Unusual Garden, Party in the park, Jazz night and a Farmers’ Market, as some of the activities lined up to mark the event.
“This year there will be a Ghana Garden and Flower Awards event and the launch of Ghana Garden & Flower Clubs, with Dr Juliette Tuakli as Guest of Honour,” it said.
The statement said the event which would be attended by policy makers and government officials, academia in the agriculture sector, business community, florists and horticulturists, botanists, home owners, estate developers, garden and flower lovers among other groups, would be chaired by the Second Lady Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur.
It quoted Miss Esther A.N. Cobbah, Chief Executive Officer of STRATCOMM Africa, as saying, “We are really delighted that the Ghana Garden & Flower movement is catching on so quickly with garden and flower enthusiasts and the entire public.
“We have been amazed at the level of interest expressed by organisations and individuals,” she said.
The statement said the closing ceremony would be performed on Monday, September 14, 2015 by Mr Collins Dauda, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.
The GGFS is part of the Innovative Ghana Garden & Flower Movement, designed to create awareness about the commercial and psychological benefits of urban beautification and gardening, promoting tourism, healthier and modern lifestyles.
It is also aimed at creating employment and income earning opportunities that would support Ghana’s growth and development.
The movement was initiated in 2013 with a maiden Show held in August 2013.
